Having the WYSIWYG Editor come up by default for the Edit button should NOT be the defaiult. It violates the Preinciple of Least Surprise for people who upgrade.
You've just confused and annoyed 14000 users at Yahoo! :-(
^E (alt-E) should do an Edit. Edit should be text-based.
I seem to recall complaining abut WYSIWYG before but now my company has upgraded and people are beginning to flood our internal supportl list with complaints.
Note:
* Set TINYMCEPLUGIN_DISABLE = 1
is useful but:
- not guessable
- the name of the variable is non-intuitive
- doesn't affect the creation of new topics
- turns off the plugin entirely (I want a switch on the default, not a complete disable of WYSIWYG by choice)

This was a community decision for the 4.2 release. IMHO it is the correct default for new TWiki deployments.
I invite you to participate in the release meetings so that you can represent your needs and interests.

Come on Vicki, WYSIWYG is very common in almost all Wiki systems. Most users at Yahoo must have welcomed to see this editor enabled. I have seen people asking for WYSIWYG editor option for a long time (before year 2007) with reasonable size company-offcourse the size was not like Yahoo's size.
Any change in any system (software is not exceptional) causes resistance/disappointment/frustration in the beginning.
