ICONTOPIC is used in TWikiPreferences, but not documented.

See TWiki:Codev.IconSets for a description.

Will try to make something useful out of that.

AC

I think the ICONTOPIC variable should be retired. Or possibly replaced by a new DOCGRAPHICSSEARCHPATH variable. See TWiki:Codev.TWikiDocGraphicsInMainWeb

-- PTh

Let's do that; silently retire it.

Discarding.

CC

It is still listed in TWikiPreferences. Is it in or is it out?

AC

Apparently still in use:

$ grep ICONTOPIC lib/*pm
lib/TWiki.pm:    my $iconTopic = $this->{prefs}->getPreferencesValue( 'ICONTOPIC' );
lib/TWiki.pm:        my $iconTopic = $this->{prefs}->getPreferencesValue( 'ICONTOPIC' );

-- PTh

It does work fine.

AC

I think it would be cleaner to remove the pref setting and the code using it. It was put in place before production release to have more than one set of doc graphics (pattern and classic). This is obsolete noew since we merged them into one set.

-- PTh

I still believe in the idea to have a set of graphics per skin. For instance, for a skin with white text on black background the current set would be too light. The setting would make it possible to have an extra set of graphics.

But the idea was also to make plugin graphics easier to change. With ICONTOPIC a plugin would point to a default topic with graphics, and users and skins would be able to point ICONTOPIC to a different set of graphics. Implementation details need to be figured out further for this.

See TWiki:Codev.IconSets

AC

This topic was lost from the lists due to not having a codebase field. Rediscovered 3/2/07. Just set it to "No Action" if it is dead.

CC

This is in TWikiPreferences:

Skin icons

  • Topic containing the icon graphics library. Icons can easily be rendered with %ICON{name}%.

-- AC

As I understand it, the action here is to remove the pref setting, something which is trivial for any checker-inner to do.

CC

Yes, but now we have shipped the functionality plus 1-line documentation with TWiki 4.1. I don't see how we are going to silently remove this.

AC

During the big VarXXX discussion the end agreement was to add Var topics for those TWikiPreferences settings that people would be using when writing topics and those that were admin site level settings would be documented only in TWikiPreferences. The feature is there. It does not cost money. It does not eat food.

And most important: Someone is probably using it to removing it will create trouble for at least one poor admin soul out there.

It is documented which is what the original report was all about.

Lets just close this.
